The Megabyte is a 14 ft unstayed performance dinghy designed by Farr Yacht Design and selected as Boat of the Year by Sailing World in 2000. It is a fast, yet stable boat that can be sailed with two crew or raced singlehanded. With the hull weight the same as a Laser but 20 sq ft more sail area, the Megabyte is attractive to sailors well over 200 lbs. They can singlehand the Megabyte competitively and comfortably thanks to its powerful sail plan, deep cockpit, and high boom. The two piece carbon fiber mast and 130 lb hull make Megabytes easy to car top and transport.
While the Megabyte is no longer being built, sailors still enjoy this class using either the original MK1 or subsequent MK2 rig. Mad Sails focuses on new sails for the MK1 setup.
