Every sail is handcrafted in our loft just outside Madison, Wisconsin—never mass-produced—using premium materials and decades of sailmaking expertise.

Mad Sails is owned and operated by Ryan Malmgren and Stacey Rieu. With more than 30 years of sailmaking experience, Ryan has worked with respected lofts including Shore Sails and North Sails before founding Mad Sails.
A lifelong competitive sailor, Ryan has raced a wide range of one-design boats—including Flying Scots, Thistles, MC Scows, and Lasers. He brings that on-the-water experience into every sail he designs, focusing on real-world performance—not just theory.
